The Substance Film
Director Coralie Fargeat's unflinching satire addresses the tyranny of feminine aesthetics as well as the perceived horrors of advancing years. Pushed out thanks to her deceitful superior Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid, she undergoes a mysterious and gruesome procedure known as "The Substance". This generates a new version of herself portrayed by Margaret Qualley, culminating in an increasingly parasitic dynamic among both women. Friday 17 October, Paramount+

This Supernatural Story
Soderbergh tests his film-making abilities through this clever paranormal narrative shot entirely from the perspective of the phantom. After a clan featuring mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe moves into their new suburban house, the filming device – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. The teen shows signs of aware of the supernatural presence, and the entity appears guarding her. But why? The premise is enjoyable that remains concise, featuring a surprise that may be unexpected. This Creepy Thriller
Derrickson's contained scarefest stands strong even without a continuation. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, a series of kidnappings has made the youth anxious. After Finney is taken by “the Grabber” and imprisoned in a basement, he dreads a terrible outcome. However, the old telephone on the wall repeatedly calls, with ghostly voices giving advice, and the intuitive nightmares from his sibling Gwen may be his salvation. A solid creepfest. October 11th, nighttime, on Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for greed in Michael Showalter's wonderfully garish true story regarding the shamed TV preacher and her criminal husband. The actor plays the corrupt Bakker, who states early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals begin monetising the American public's spiritual convictions. It's a riot of tacky decor, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, however Jessica Chastain achieves to depict the character as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, on Film4
The Spy Mystery
This period's second offering from Steven Soderbergh presents a spy mystery as tight similar to the collars worn by Fassbender's British agent. He receives a mission to identify a traitor within their ranks from a group of five – among them is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. Both actors are masters of calm composure, leading to a delightful mind game of fact versus fiction takes place. The supporting cast take part the clever spy entertainment.
